fter a slow start, 'Shanghai' managed Rs 12 crores in its opening weekend. Meanwhile 'Rowdy Rathore' crosses the 100-crore mark.
Dibakar Bannerji's Shanghai has received unanimous acclaim throughout in the media. The film starring Emraan Hashmi, Abhay Deoland Kalki Koechlin started on a slow note on Friday but picked up with a positive word of mouth over the weekend collecting around Rs 12 crores. The business is best only in multiplexes though.
Meanwhile Akshay Kumar's Rowdy Rathore continued to rule the box-office even in its second week after a steady run in its first week. The film managed to cross the Rs 100 crore mark (the new benchmark in Bollywood) with the second weekend collections estimated to around Rs 101 crores. 2012 is certainly proving to be a good year for Akshay Kumar with Rowdy Rathore being his second film to cross Rs 100 crore mark (after Housefull 2)
The coming Friday sees the release of Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Ferrari Ki Sawari directed by his protege Rajesh Mapuskar. The film stars Sharman Joshi as the solo lead for the first time. Rajkumar Hirani was written dailogues for the film.
There are three more lesser-known releases scheduled for the week. Abhishek Anand debuts in an underworld action film Chakradhaar. Azim Rizvi and Faith debut as the lead pair inQasam Se Qasam Se. The third is an independent film called Kshay which claims to be a psychological study of human obsession documented through the POV of a middle-class Indian housewife. However all these three films don't seem to have much chance as far as the box-office is concerned.
