Aamir Khan’s ‘Satyamev Jayate’ impact: NGO gets huge donation

Thanks to the show’s message, a de-addiction centre in Pune receives Rs 4.37 lakh

Aamir Khan’s TV show Satyamev Jayate has its share of bouquets and brickbats, but the show’s impact is more positive than negative. Each episode of SJ covers a social issue, generally followed by overwhelming response by audiences either in the form of verbal reactions, SMSes, social networking shares or monetary aid.
This time, Satyamev Jayate‘s episode on alcohol abuse has helped Pune-based NGO Muktangan Rehabilitation Centre (MRS), which works with alcohol addicts, gather Rs 4.37 lakh in donations. Of which, Rs 2.18 lakh was generated through SMSes alone, and an almost equal figure was contributed by Nita Ambani’s Reliance Foundation that is associated with the TV show.
Aamir himself handed over the cheque to Muktangan. The NGO will use the money to rehabilitate street children addicted to harmful substances, reports NDTV.
