July 1's episode of Satyamev Jayate had a surprise guest - lyricist Javed Akhtar. Mr Akhtar was on the show to speak about his experiences as a reformed alcoholic.
The latest episode of Satyamev Jayate spoke about those who had died because of alcoholism, and also featured a number of former alcoholics who shared their stories of how they overcame their addiction to drink.
Mr Akhtar said he started drinking as a fun activity to do with friends but soon turned into a disease. At one stage of his addiction, he drank a full bottle of alcohol in a day.
On the show, Mr Akhtar said, "I have been addicted to alcohol for 26-27 years. I started drinking at a very younge age of 19. When I came to Bombay (now Mumbai) after completing my graduation I started drinking with friends and later it became a habit. Earlier I didn't have enough money but then after my success money flow was also taken care of. Then came a time when I would drink one bottle a day."

He also spoke about how drinking has a sort of glamour attached to it and warned youngsters that it could ruin lives.
Mr Ahtar said, "I believe that a person who drinks can be "three things ghinoney (filthy), gadha or both."
The episode of Satyamev Jayate, which was its ninth, began with Aamir asking how many of his young audience drank and almost 90 per cent raised their hands with some saying it had become a social obligation.
