Friday the 13th is proving to be a very lucky day for the team of ‘Cocktail’. The Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Pentene starrer is riding high on the popularity wave. The flick is doing extremely well in the metros but it is also putting up an equally strong performance in the rural areas and small towns. Taking into consideration that the movie is targeted to a niche urban audience, the mass popularity garnered is quite commendable. This is one of the biggest opener for Saif and Deepika.
The multiplexes embraced the movie on the weekend and most returned 90 percent occupancy rate or houseful status. ‘Cocktail’ was able to collect 10.75 crore from the Indian box office on its opening day. The collection was more on Saturday and jumped to the number 11.75 crore. Sunday witnessed a huge collection of 13 crore at the box office. This puts the earning of ‘Cocktail’ to a whooping Rs. 35.5 crore in the opening weekend.
The movie is doing extremely good in overseas as well. ‘Cocktail’ has released in 73 screens in UK and is able to collect a total of Rs.2.51 crore this weekend. From US it collected Rs. 3.54 crore on the first weekend. The staggering figures put the flick in the bracket of super hits. And to think that the movie was made on a budget of thirty crore!
According to the box office statistics the movie has collected 6.1 crore from India and on Tuesday the figure was 5.3 crore. According to the market analysts the film is well set on its way to gross 55 crore in its first week. The second week of the movie is supposed to take it past the 70 crore mark.
